Mega Sporting Events

I’ve had the pleasure and honor to work four Super Bowls and two Pro Bowls, all in different capacities.

Super Bowl XXXVIII

Reliant Stadium

Houston, TX

At the time I worked for the Houston Texans as their Operations Coordinator and in preparation for the Super Bowl, the NFL took over much of the space we used on a daily basis. As a result of the takeover, I was assigned to act as a facility liaison between multiple parties representing different working groups from the NFL and the Texans.

Super Bowl XLVII

The Superdome

New Orleans, LA

I was assigned as a team liaison for this Super Bowl and participated in the walk thru with the final four teams participating in the conference championships. My role here was to provide support, however the assigned team needed me. I ended up working with the Operations team from the SF49ers and helped them manage everything from the team room block to transportation to answering myriad questions from friends and family regarding the game itself. On gameday, I assisted NFL Football Ops with security, communications, and sideline control, as well as team movements and scheduling.

Super Bowl XLIX

University of Phoenix Stadium

Glendale, AZ

This was one of the years the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl were played 1 week apart in the same city and at the same venue. In this year, I was working with the contracted transportation company, first for the Pro Bowl, where I coordinated with an outstanding team of transportation professionals to schedule and oversee logistics related to moving the Pro Bowl teams and their families. Movements included to and from practice, community events, and the game and required a tremendous amount of consultation among venues, the NFL, drivers, and police escorts. After the Pro Bowl concluded I was rolled in the SB Teams team. For the Super Bowl, I wasn’t assigned one team but rather was a troubleshooter and went as an extra set of hands wherever and whenever I was needed. In addition to assisting both teams, I was also assigned oversight, scheduling, and coordination duties of the Seattle Seahawks ownership group. Their movements included a trip from PHX to Sedona and then to the SB, post game party, back to Sedona, and then concluded with a final to the airport for their return trip home.

Super Bowl LI

Reliant Stadium

Houston, TX

I returned to Houston to work with the Houston Host Committee, which was charged with putting on SBLive/NFL Experience. My role with the Host Committee was to manage the day to day operation of the WowFactor!, First in Flight, a partnership with NASA and several space industry contractors. This was the main attraction because of the assets that NASA and their partners provided for guests to get up close and personal with. The highlight of the area was a VR experience ride that took people from Earth’s surface to Mars and back, just in time for kickoff of the Super Bowl. I was given the task of managing the ride operators, volunteers, and other partners to ensure an exceptional experience for all of our guests. In a matter of 10 days in operation, we were able to put approximately 30,000 guests through the VR ride experience, along with another group of several thousand people who chose to experience the VR trip while keep their feet firmly planted on the ground.

The Pro Bowl

Aloha Stadium

Turtle Bay, North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii

Perhaps one of my most favorite jobs! I was hired to help coordinate operations at the team practice hotel and practice facility. This role included overseeing field maintenance/quality, practice field set up, parking and transportation, and Gameday Operations.
